Remove the cap on the master cylinder and siphon out the brake fluid using the syringe and put the old brake fluid into the glass container. 2 Loosen the brake lines on the master cylinder using a line wrench. Pull them away from the master cylinder without bending the lines and kinking them. 3 Unbolt the master cylinder from the brake booster using an open-end wrench. Slide the master cylinder off of the booster and pull it away from the vehicle. Tips & Warnings Brake fluid can damage paint, so make sure you don't drop any on the car. Do not bend the brake lines when removing the master cylinder. Remove the two nuts securing the master cylinder to the brake booster, using the appropriate size socket. Pull the master cylinder off the brake booster studs. 3 Remove the roll pin securing the master cylinder reservoir to the master. It is located between the sections of the reservoir. Use the punch and hammer to tap it out. Use the screwdriver to pry it the rest of the way out of the master cylinder. 4 Install the reservoir on the new master cylinder and insert the roll pin. Lay the master on a bench or put it in a vise, if one is available, and install the two plastic bleeder screws and hoses included with the master cylinder. These are for bleeding the master prior to installing it. 5 Fill the master cylinder reservoir with brake fluid. Hold the two hoses in the fluid in the reservoir. Pump the master cylinder, using a screwdriver, until all the air bubbles disappear in the fluid. Install the master cylinder in reverse order or removal.
